Marmite Mac and Cheese
So, marmite… It’s a love hate relationship that many experience but for me, I absolutely lovely it and what’s better than pasta and cheese? Added marmite of course. So, I challenge all of you marmite lovers and marmite haters to dive in and give it a go - I guarantee it’s a mac and cheese gamechanger.
Ingredients
40g dairy free butter from Flora
plain flour
vintage tickler cheddar
3 tsp marmite
2 tsp of This is Not Grated Cheese - Italian Style from Plant Based cheese at @waitroseandpartnerspr
70g pasta
1 tsp mustard powder
200ml milk (I use oatly)
Method
Pop a salted pan of water on to boil and then add in your pasta and cook until tender.
Whilst this is cooking, Melt your butter then whisk in your flour quickly to create a thick paste also known as a roux.
Add in your milk little by little (not all in one go) and keep stirring until you get a lovely thick creamy sauce texture.
Add in your marmite and then your mustard powder and stir until combined - taste test here and add more or less in depending on your taste.
Then add in your grated vintage cheese and stir on a low heat.
Add in a tbsp of pasta water to the sauce and then drain, adding in your pasta to your sauce and serve with a sprinkling of hard cheese
